Short Biographical Note
Pope Leo XIV, born Robert Francis Prevost, was born on September 14, 1955, in the Bronzeville neighborhood of Chicago and grew up in Dolton, a southern suburb of the city.
Pope Leo XIV’s Roots: A Heritage of French, Italian, and Spanish Descent
His father, Louis Marius Prevost, was of French-Italian descent, served in the U.S. Navy during World War II, and later worked as a school administrator. His mother, Mildred Martínez, was of Spanish descent and worked as a librarian. Robert Prevost joined the Order of St. Augustine in 1977 and was ordained a priest in 1982.
